LONEHILL, JOHANNESBURG:
The project involves additions and alterations to an existing house. The client requested a modern feel to the existing house, where spaces are open consisting of simple variation of materials. The client wanted to experience the spaces in and around the house as a whole, where before the garage and the helper’s room were completely detached from the main house. The connection between the main house and the garage was achieved by creating a covered corridor with skylights, this helped achieve natural light within the corridor that leads to a glass enclosed staircase that overlooks the garden.
The dining area opens out to an entertainment area, which in turn opens out to a garden space. A timber screen for an aesthetic variation of material and security reasons completes the design of the entertainment area. The additions includes a study where work can be done from the comfort of the home. A new timber deck that surrounds the swimming pool and garden creates a link between the house and the garden space.
